Minister of Health Litzman on closing Synagogues: As soon as we are maintaining 2 meters [between people] I don’t see a reason to make a change

Wednesday, 25.3.20, in a cabinet meeting held over the phone, Minister of Health MK Yaakov Litzman (United Torah Judaism) asked to exclude prayer from the new rules and to allow people to continue to pray in Synagogues in groups of 10 people or less.
Overnight, the government approved making emergency measures taken to fight the spread of COVID-19 stricter.

According to Walla News, Minister of Health MK Litzman (UTJ) asked to exempt Synagogues from the new, stricter guidelines and to continue to operate according to previous guidelines which allowed prayer of up to 10 people.

Prime Minister MK Benjamin Netanyahu objected to this suggestion saying:

Synagogues have the highest spread of infection along with clubs and shops. This is a huge source of infection. There is no choice”.

Minister of Health Litzman responded:

As soon as we are maintaining 2 meters [between people] I don’t see a reason to make a change“.
